Tough law on food adulteration
July 02, 2014 00:00:00
The government is going to enact law incorporating tough punishment for using chemicals in edible items. This is no doubt a good move to stop formalin menace in food. We hope the new law will rein in the free use of formalin in food, particularly in fishes and seasonal fruits. Consumers in general have expressed their satisfaction over this law and we hope, once enacted, it will be implemented properly.
The new law also slapped restriction on random sale of formalin. Formalin traders will be required to obtain licence to import and stock formalin. We foresee the days of formalin in our kitchen market are numbered. People today are more conscious about their health than before. Consciousness of citizens against anything bad is very important in creating a good society.
