It is indeed sad to see that we have so far failed to boost our tourism sector and make it into a profitable and lucrative one, despite having so much potential. If we prioritize this sector, our economy can go a long way and we can cut back our overdependence on the ready-made garments sector and diversify our economy. Coxe's bazar, Sylhet, Chittagong and Kukata can be attractive hubs of foreign and local tourists. We know how Indonesia and Thailand have developed their tourism industry and made it a big money spinning sector. Bangladesh is a beautiful country and we have plenty of places which can be highlighted to attract tourists from around the world. There is a strong perception outside that our country is a country of political instability, natural calamities, human rights abuse and abject poverty.
All we need to do is to remove these perceptions and present the inherent beauty of Bangladesh, its nature and people. This will also immensely help develop our economy. Since Bangladesh is blessed with boundless natural beauty, it will be easy for us to develop this sector. I think it is high time we paid attention to this and give due importance to the tourism sector. A judicious planning can indeed boost tourism in our country and contribute significantly to its economy.
