Tragic accident in Lakshmipur

Around the early hours of January 23 in Lakshmipur, Noakhali, a bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw. Seven people inside the auto-rickshaw, including six members of a family, died. The seventh person was the driver of the auto-rickshaw. The family was going to the Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital to visit another family member who was already admitted there.
Fatal and tragic road accidents like this are occurring every week. Reckless driving, unskilled and overworked drivers and bad road conditions are often causes behind road accidents. Rampant violation of safety rules by transport operators and drivers is also a cause of fatalities and injuries on roads. Due to persistent traffic congestion, drivers of vehicles drive recklessly with an aim to make more trips.
To address the problem, the government should introduce more public buses and improve local railway services to reduce the pressure of private vehicles, auto-rickshaws, human haulers and other transports on the highways and roads.
