Transportation crisis

November 21, 2019 00:00:00

A wildcat transport strike on different routes has created crisis for common passengers and traders in carrying goods. Transport workers called the strike in protest against enforcement of newly enacted Road Transport Act. Passengers were seen stranded in many places or waiting for vehicles. Authorities concerned were not also taking stringent measures while implementing the law.

However, the road transport minister called on the transport workers to abide by the law, which was enacted to reduce road accidents and bring discipline on roads and highways. Now, the passengers have been made hostage. We hope the government would stick to its position on enforcement of the law without any delay. There could be talks on how to help drives and other transport workers through training and welfare support. Safety of passengers is not an issue on which compromise should be made under any circumstances.
