TV dramas should be entertaining, not stressful

June 14, 2022 00:00:00

Gone are the days when we used to feel proud of our television plays and their quality. Once we used to wait even an entire week for watching an episode of our favourite serial. We now have numerous TV channels and they air TV drama serials round the clock but only a handful of people watch them. Today, we seem to have no excitement over any TV programme or any play.

In light of our hectic metropolitan lives, the most we deserve is light-hearted entertainment from TV channels. But if one watches our TV plays, one can easily realise that our plays and serials are laden with grief, hardship and misery. Instead of being an outlet for stress relief, our entertainment networks come up with the exact opposite. And there are other issues, too. While watching a 35-minute TV play, a viewer has to watch at least 10 minutes of television commercials (TVCs). This is sometimes so annoying that viewers lose their patience and switch to Indian TV channels.

If television is run the right way, there is a lot of positivity that could come out of it. TV could not only have a calming effect, but it could open doors to creativity and novelty. Hence, such a change is the need of the time.
