Two-day weekend for schools
August 22, 2022 00:00:00
The government has decided to introduce a two-day weekly school holiday from the following year. It is a right decision. In fact, all the educational institutions should come under a two-day weekend. Now, there is a discussion that the two-day weekend may be introduced soon due to the power crisis. The education minister has already hinted at this.
Considering the present electricity shortage and summer heat, we should welcome the move.
The government should immediately announce the two-day weekend in all the educational institutions in the country. There is no logic in keeping the schools and colleges open six days a week.
A single day holiday is not enough for students, teachers, guardians and staff. If the schools thoughtfully designed class routines, weekly five-day classes should be sufficient. We should remember that it is the quality of teaching and learning that ultimately matters. Unnecessary focus on a long syllabus is a punishment for students. Instead of making education joyful, the current system has made it repressive. We need to get rid of it. The two-day weekend will be the first step in this direction.
