Uganda govt bans planned protests over polls

KAMPALA, Feb 26: Ugandan police say they will not allow peaceful demonstrations called for by an opposition candidate who claims the president rigged the recent election. Kale Kayihura, the inspector general of police, said opposition leaders want to cause violence and destabilize the country using the pretext of peaceful demonstrations. Official election results said President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power for a quarter-century, won 68 percent of the vote.- AP
