Unemployment crisis

March 08, 2025 00:00:00

Bangladesh faces a growing unemployment crisis, particularly among young graduates. While traditional job opportunities remain limited, entrepreneurship can serve as a viable solution to this issue. The rise of digital platforms and the gig economy presents an opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to create their own businesses and generate employment for others.

However, despite the potential, several barriers hinder entrepreneurial growth, including limited access to funding, bureaucratic red tape, and a lack of business education. Many young entrepreneurs struggle to secure loans due to strict collateral requirements, and the business registration process remains complicated and time-consuming.

To foster a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, the government must introduce policies that facilitate easier access to credit, streamline business regulations, and invest in skill development programmes. Additionally, private sector initiatives such as startup incubators and mentorship programmes can play a crucial role in supporting new businesses.

By encouraging entrepreneurship, Bangladesh can reduce unemployment, stimulate economic growth, and strengthen its position in the global market. It is time to shift our focus from traditional employment to fostering a culture of innovation and self-sufficiency.
