It is worrisome to know that one-third of our young population is unemployed. We need to increase job openings regularly so that we can arrange employment for the young people who are supposed to enter job market every year.
Bangladesh has a young population. Youths are more than 25 per cent of the population. We should use services of the youth. We need to teach our youngsters computer and e-commerce so that they can grab a chunk of an IT-based industry. In addition, we should encourage young people to enter into entrepreneurship.
We have to realise that the population is our asset if we can use it to our advantage. Youths will be able to take out our country from the abject poverty and backwardness if they are instilled with the right knowledge and skills.
If there is a peaceful environment in Bangladesh, people and organisations from home and abroad will invest. The government needs to explore destinations where we can export our human resources and earn valuable foreign currency. It is high time we planned our future keeping our youths at its centre.
