Unfit vehicles plying city roads flouting fitness rule
January 06, 2015 00:00:00
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) made a special drive with the help of relevant authorities to locate unfit vehicles plying city roads. But the drive turned out to be ineffective as most of the unfit vehicles are back on city streets in no time without proper fitness.
BRTA is entrusted with the responsibility of watching vehicles' fitness, and if BRTA did not certify these unfit vehicles then how could they move freely right under the nose of traffic police.
Traffic police should know that a vehicle's fitness should not be judged only by exterior appearance, its interior condition should also be checked thoroughly apart from checking their fitness certificates. Only a look at the fitness certificates can not ensure fitness as many unscrupulous owners may adopt unfair means to produce a false certificate. Therefore, the authorities concerned must check both interior and exterior of a vehicle in order to verify the certificate of fitness issued by BRTA.
It is needless to mention that interiors are still found in shabby and untidy state in many vehicles which poses health hazards threats to passengers. Will the relevant authorities look into the matter and ensure that vehicles are fit for city streets?
