Unruly internee doctors of RMCH

May 12, 2014 00:00:00

Finally the Rajshahi Medical College & Hospital (RMCH) authorities have taken a tough decision and withheld the certificates of 20 odd internee doctors who have been accused of assaulting journalists. Even, later, they refused to treat a bleeding photo journalist. The goon-like attitude of some internee doctors is deplorable. We hope exemplary punishment will deter repetition of such incidents. No one should be above the law and the culture of impunity must go if we want the law and order to be established in our country.

I was surprised to read the newspaper reports about the callous attitude of the doctors towards ailing patients. Many patients were suffering severe pain and pleading for help but no doctor gave them treatment as they were observing their strike. Medical practice is a very noble profession and people highly respect doctors and teachers in our country but gradually we are noticing that these noble professions are losing their high ground. It is high time we pondered over what we are teaching our next generation. Do we want our children to repeat what we are doing?
