MANILA, Aug 2 (AFP): The United States and North Korea agreed to work hard to successfully complete a six-nation agreement on disarming Pyongyang's nuclear programme, officials said Thursday.
The top US negotiator on the issue, Christopher Hill, briefly met North Korean Foreign Minister Pak Ui-Chun Wednesday night on the sidelines of an Asian security meeting in Manila.
"We had a nice pleasant discussion and we agreed to work very hard in August," Hill told reporters.
"My comments were that we had to get this done and he agreed," Hill said. "Things are finally falling into place. We have a lot to get done."
More working groups are scheduled later in the month ahead of the next round of six-nation talks in September.
In February, the six nations reached a deal for energy-starved North Korea to receive one million tons of fuel oil or equivalent aid and diplomatic concessions in return for scrapping its nuclear weapons programmes.
