Vaccinating students bound for studying abroad

July 09, 2021 00:00:00

Soon after the outbreak of novel coronavirus, most of the countries across the world closed down their educational institutions and shifted to online education due to Covid restrictions. This undoubtedly has taken a massive toll on learning and the students who wished to continue their academic pursuits abroad have had to sacrifice almost two valuable years. Classes are now being conducted virtually in some universities and some universities have begun their in-person academic activities. Educational institutions around the world have taken severe restrictive measures in this regard. Many have made vaccination mandatory before allowing students to attend classes physically.

For many students in Bangladesh, constant lockdowns and travel bans have already put a hold on their desire to achieve a degree from top-ranked universities. As a result, they find themselves in a state of depression, anxiety and frustration.

Many Bangladeshi students have been admitted to different foreign universities on deposition of money and their academic sessions will start in August or September. But they cannot go abroad as they are yet to be inoculated. Bangladesh government has recently resumed registration for Covid vaccination and widened the coverage by lowering the age limit to 35 years and incorporating potential recipients from various categories. However, it is a matter of sorrow that the foreign-bound Bangladesh students have been dropped from the list of vaccination. So, we urge the authorities concerned to facilitate the students going abroad for higher education to get Covid vaccine with their passports instead of National Identity cards.
