April 25, 2023 00:00:00
World Book Day, celebrated on April 23 every year, is a day dedicated to promoting reading, publishing, and copyright around the world. The day was introduced by UNESCO in 1995 as a worldwide occasion for books and reading. This day reminds us the value of books and their role in shaping society. However, it is unfortunate that people no longer want to read books for pleasure in this age of smartphones. The habit of reading is now almost a thing of the past. Most of us are now addicted more to watching web series than reading books at night. But reading habit not only increases knowledge but also helps us stay healthy. This is why, many experts recommend reading books for at least an hour every day. In fact, when we read a book, a number of changes begin to take place inside our brain, which results in the elimination of many diseases.
Reading can enhance our memory. The part of the brain that is used to retain memory becomes active while reading a book. According to experts, while reading some hormones, which help us fall asleep, are secreted. So if you are suffering from insomnia, you can try reading a book before your bedtime. Books can be one of the things that can reduce anxiety. Some studies have even shown that people who read books regularly live longer than others. So, we should start cultivating book reading habit and encourage others by giving them books as gifts.
