War against formalin
June 30, 2014 00:00:00
The much talked-about war against formalin seems to have been subsided within a short time after the authority waged this war a few days ago. Mangoes in the basket of vendors and on the show cases of the 'formalin free' or 'direct from the orchards' sales spots in the capital give the same look as they appeared before the formalin-free drive.
Though a perishable fruit, mangoes remain fresh and perfect for days together. This makes us believe that they have undergone a 'chemical treatment' before being marketed. Moreover, the drive mostly remained concentrated in the capital Dhaka, keeping the vast market throughout the country unprotected. And the imported fruits remain intact as before. It looks the imported fruits are grown never to be perished.
