Dr N Nina Ahmad is the first Bangladeshi nominated to join the Obama administration. This brilliant lady is going to be one of the members of 14-member advisory commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs). Nina Ahmad is the founding member of APA for Progress, a grassroots level national network of the Asian Pacific Americans and friends for Progressive Action. Dr Ahmad serves as the Administrator of Global City Regional Center (LLC), a position she has held since May 2013.
Nina Ahmad is co-founder and co-owner of JNA Capital, Inc. She received her Doctoral degree in 1990 from the Chemistry Department of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at the Thomas Jefferson University. She worked from 1992 to 2005 at the Wills Eye Hospital first as a Bower Research fellow and then held a Joint Assistant Professorship in the Ophthalmology Department of the Jefferson Medical College and subsequent Directorship of Molecular Biology of the Research Department. Dr Ahmad is involved in serving the greater Philadelphia community in a variety of ways. She was appointed by Mayor Michael Nutter in 2009 to serve as the Chair of the Mayor's Commission on Asian American Affairs; she serves on many of the boards of local and national organisations, including the Philadelphia Foundation, the Asian American/Pacific Islanders. She is an expert in directing outreach strategies for candidates to new/immigrant voting audiences and served as a Senior Advisor for Obama.
A good number of people from Bangladesh origin have been working in the UK also. Today, we really feel proud of her and we wish her every success in the days to come.
