We demand fair trial of Felani killing
October 03, 2014 00:00:00
The killing of Felani Khatun, a 15-year old Bangladeshi girl on January 7, 2011 when she was crossing the Bangladesh-India border was the worst ever inhuman incident in the history of border killing. The first trial failed to bring justice in favour of slain Felani and her family. The Indian court acquitted Amiya Ghosh, the accused killer of Felani of the charge of killing. This frustrated the justice seekers.
The retrial of Felani killing has started again. We demand a fair trial and we want justice. We also urge the Bangladesh government to be more active and put pressure on the Indian government in the dispensation of justice for the sake of humanity and the solace of Felani's family. We also urge the Bangladeshi media to build public opinion within and outside the country. If we again fail to bring justice for Felani and her family in the retrial, the border killings will undoubtedly continue unabated. We do not want this to happen anymore. We demand maximum punishment of the killer and want no more Felani to be killed on or near the border.
