The summer is yet to set in with full force, but we are already experiencing load shedding after every few hours. There is hardly any respite even during the night. Children, elderly people and patients suffer most due to power outage. I wonder what will happen when the mercury will rise further. It is sad that in this age of phenomenal scientific development, we have to face an acute shortage of electricity in our country. Consecutive governments made promises to fulfill our energy requirement, but no remarkable change in the state of affairs is noticeable. Industrial and farm production are badly hampered due to power shortage. There is a growing feeling of uncertainty among the potential investors that discourages them to come forward with new investment. We cannot depend on the quick rental power generation system for long since it is very expensive and therefore we need to take a long term plan to mitigate the crisis. Our energy infrastructure is inadequate, inefficient and poorly managed in comparison with the requirement. We should not forget that electricity is an essential prerequisite for production activities and without enhancing the capacity of power generation, we cannot expect to achieve our desired rate of growth. I hope the government will take concrete steps to generate the required volume of electricity so that our production plans are materialized and the economy gets necessary backing to move ahead.
