A letter published in a local daily has hit the above issue point blank. While the writer appreciates the views expressed that are quite rational and factual, unfortunately we Muslims are to be blamed for all that is being propagated against us. We have forgotten our glorious past when Muslims were leading in the domains of arts, architecture, science, mathematics and literature around the world many centuries ago. We have taken our eyes off the history when Muslims built civilizations that earned laurels from the staunchest of their critics. That is all lost and forgotten and also overlooked by Muslims of today.
Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) respected the Jews and Christians calling them as the 'people of the book' who were governed by its teachings. Muslims of today have lost all the earlier virtues of tolerance and acceptance of others. Their ignorance of Islamic values has forged a narrow minded, intolerant dogma which is being spread by narrow minded bigotry and is taking us backward day by day with extremism defying all logical and historical broadmindedness the Muslims were known for and making us mindless fanatics in the eye of the western world.
