What if no vaccine is developed!

August 06, 2020 00:00:00

We are living in a situation that we could neither anticipate nor expect to face. All of a sudden, we entered a shutdown isolating ourselves from others, in order to prevent an unseen object called coronavirus. This Covid-19 has defined out life, although we initially thought this would be short-lived. The world also hoped a vaccine would be developed soon as a number of countries are carrying out targeted research.

However, there were speculations and reports that it might take more time for innovating coronavirus vaccine. The most recent statement from the World Health Organisation that vaccine might never be available sounded frustrating for people around the world. The global agency also emphasised security measures to control spread of the virus.

In that case, we in Bangladesh would be facing higher challenge of eliminating the virus. The zero death in Bhutan is a bright example and lesser casualties in Bangladesh's rural areas are encouraging for us. Whoever has been attacked by the virus had reasons to be infected - proximity, inhaling virus during sneezing, touching fluids etc. So, caution is still important for keeping away from the virus. And if a vaccine is really not innovated, we've to find ways to get rid of health disaster.
