In recent years, question leakage before all kinds of examinations in Bangladesh has become a common phenomenon. This illegal practice has spread through academic arena to job market. We frequently hear the news of questions being leaked before every public exam. Even the PSC, the JSC and the university admission exams are mired in this vice. Some students are found to be keen to find ways to get question papers before exams than studying hard.
The dirtiest thing is that a facebook group (where questions are given before exams) has been created regarding this recently. However, its given question papers may be right or wrong. That is none of our concern. The worrying thing is that students are wasting their time on it and it is not a good sign for our nation.
Copying in the exams may be eliminated but use of digital device or cell phone in the exam halls has not yet been stopped. For this malpractice in the examinations, many talented students lose their inherent creative power. Last year, the Agrani Bank's recruitment exam became void because of question paper leakage. Sometimes the evil-doers are caught red-handed but after that, they go scot-free thanks to undue influences from different quarters. The authorities too dilly-dally in taking necessary steps against this heinous activity. They often say the matter is under investigation but the probe report never comes to light.
Needless to emphasise, education is the backbone of a nation but most of the time we forget this truth. Historically, students of Bangladesh had played glorious roles in national liberation, progress and development. They were the pioneers in making the nation free from every crisis from liberation war to 1/11. But if the practice of question leaking continues, the students will lose their inherent boundless power to restore their previous image. Recently many government and private organisations have published job circulars and it is the foremost duty of the authority to make the whole process free from all kinds of malpractice so that talented people can get the positions they deserve. Otherwise, the foundation of the nation will be shaky risking its collapse any time.
