When bugs float in water
May 08, 2025 00:00:00
The proverb "Water is life" holds true in every aspect of our lives. When water becomes unsafe for use, it puts people's lives at risk. Residents of Gopibag and Maniknagar in Dhaka city have been facing numerous difficulties over the past few months.
The water supply contains insects, worms, foul odours, and various forms of filth. This not only disrupts daily household activities but has also led to several health issues. Parents are particularly concerned about children suffering from stomach problems, diarrhea, vomiting, and other waterborne diseases.
Water is essential for cooking, bathing, laundry, and cleaning utensils. However, the current state of the supplied water poses a serious threat to public health. Many families are being forced to rely on bottled or filtered water, which is unaffordable for some.
The authorities concerned must act swiftly and decisively. Water treatment plants should undergo regular cleaning and inspections, pipeline issues must be addressed, and public complaints taken seriously.
We, the citizens of Gopibag and Maniknagar, humbly urge the authorities to take both immediate and long-term measures to ensure access to safe and clean water. Safe water is not a luxury-it is a basic human right that must be upheld.
