Why are students failing to respect teachers?

June 30, 2022 00:00:00

Students are expected to show good social behaviour to establish healthy relationships with their teachers. However, many students are now unaware of the basic academic norms. I have witnessed many instances of students treating their teachers with disrespect, asking inappropriate questions, or even leaving the class without informing them. Students with such bad manners are a threat to a healthy academic environment. So, it is hardly surprising that the unfortunate incident like a wreath of shoes being put around the neck of a teacher by locals including students in Narail or a teacher being killed by his student using a cricket stump in Savar could take place.

We are aware of the fact that recent advancements in educational practices have changed almost all conventional methods. Still, manner and etiquette must remain as important as it was in previous generations. There has always been a fine line between teachers and students, and that is what strengthened their relationship. If students are not taught to behave and go by the basic norms, it is feared, eventually moral decay will set in society. We should remind our students of how important manners and etiquettes are not just in the classroom but also in a social setting.
