Wintry chill and sufferings of the poor

It is indeed heartening to see many private banks and organisations distributing winter clothes to the poor and destitute people who are suffering in this harsh wintry weather.  Rural areas are worse affected. Women, children and elderly people suffer most as mercury goes down. We also see a number of deaths due to excessive cold. This can be prevented and life can be made easier with a little bit of help from those who can afford.
Islami Bank Bangladesh, Bank Asia, Shahjalal Islami Bank, Export Import Bank of Bangladesh and many other banks and organisations have come forward with money and blankets. I hope, many others will follow suit.
Winter these days has become a period of festivity as we enjoy wedding ceremonies, picnics and cultural programmes. We also travel around in this season, but we tend to forget that many of our countrymen are suffering. If Bangladeshis who are living abroad also come forward with some help, it will further reduce the sufferings of the poor during winter.
