Women empowerment through ICT

February 28, 2014 00:00:00

Adolescent Development Programme under BRAC Education Programme along with British Council achieved Manthan Award this year in the category of 'e-women and empowerment'. The award giving ceremony was held on December 5-6, 2013, in New Delhi, India. This year's ascertained topic of the contest was "Connecting People for Access and Empowerment".

Girls of 45 Kishori Clubs in Manikganj and Tangail districts are learning English through 'ICT under the English and ICT for Adolescents project'. There are a lot of projects working in the districts nearby Dhaka, including Tanagil, Manikganj, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Norshingdi. Only the villages having well communication system are selected for the projects. It should be avoided and the farthest districts not having good communication should also be taken under the project.

BRAC, the largest NGO in the world, around 2200 other NGOs and many government organisations have been working for the development of women in Bangladesh. Despite the activities of these NGOs, violence against women and girls has increased dramatically in our society and the magnitude of violence is high. Moreover, we don't have strong voices protesting violence against women in Bangladesh. Why women lead an inhuman life?
