Most of the Bangladesh missions abroad including key ones like Washington, Berlin, London, Madrid, Ottawa, The Hague and Paris have achieved their export targets for the first eight months (July-February) of the current fiscal year. The total export earnings of the country for July-February stood at US$14070.21 million showing an impressive 19.58 per cent higher than the target of $11766.05 million and also 40.28 per cent more than the corresponding period of the last fiscal (2009-10). Out of the 44 Bangladesh missions, 25 achieved their export targets for the period, according to the latest statistics provided by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), reports UNB. The well-performing 25 missions are New Delhi, The Hague, Berlin, Amman, Ottawa, Nairobi, Hanoi, Canberra, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Riyadh, Dubai, Brussels, Moscow, Pretoria, Beijing, Paris, Tashkent, Washington, London, Stockholm, Colombo, Madrid, Katmandu and Rome. Of the 19 missions that could not achieve their targets, the export growth for 13 of them was however higher than the corresponding period of last fiscal. These missions are Tripoli, Ankara, Manama, Seoul, Singapore, Islamabad, Doha, Rabat, Tokyo, Thimpu, Cairo, Tehran and Muscat. However, export growth of six missions - Bangkok, Manila, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Brunei and Yangon - was lower than that of the corresponding period of the previous year (2009-10). Out of the 16 Bangladesh missions having commercial wings, 12 exceeded their export targets. These are Moscow, Washington, Berlin, Canberra, Ottawa, Paris, London, Brussels, Madrid, Dubai, New Delhi and Beijing. Two of the four commercial wings in Tokyo and Teheran achieved some improvement over the corresponding period of last fiscal. Exports declined in two other countries, Malaysia and Myanmar where commercial wings are functioning. The EPB figures revealed that the 25 missions that succeeded in achieving their export targets accounted for the bulk of the total exports - $12628.8 million. Of them, 12 missions with commercial wings earned $10258.46 million.
