Being a long time support to the agriculture sector and strategic ally of the Agriculture Information Service (AIS), mobile phone operating company Banglalink has again stepped up to provide assistance to the Ministry of Agriculture and AIS by contributing 20 internet data modems. Md Nazrul Islam, Director of AIS, Ahmed Fady, Chief Technical Officer, Shihab Ahmad, Marketing Director, Jalal Hossain, Head of Commercial Strategy & Planning, Infrastructure Business and Strategic Projects, and Md Mahbubul Alam Bhuiyan, Infrastructure & Strategic Project Manager of Banglalink were present at the modem handover ceremony, said a press statement. Agriculture, being the lifeblood of Bangladesh, is one of most important sectors that can transform the country towards a whole new prospect in securing food resources and in reducing paucity. With more than three-quarter of the population contributing to this sector, the Bangladesh government has already taken several measures to cater to these people by establishing Agriculture Information and Communication Centers (AICCs) throughout the country. Information on agriculture is always available at the AIS, but lack of specific technological medium has been a drawback to successfully disseminate that information. Now, with Banglalink coming up and making the AICCs go online with the help of Banglalink internet modems will give the opportunity to connect both the government and the farmers to flow any kind of necessary information instantly to each other.
