Bibi Russell opens Swadesh Palli in Chittagong

CHITTAGONG, July 9: Bibi Russell, world-famous fashion designer, inaugurated a branch of Swadesh Palli, a leading fashion design house of the country, at Muradpur in the port city Sunday.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Bibi Russell said the Chittagong has been playing a vital role in preserving and resurrecting the cultural heritage of the region and showing the light of social creative works.
"From Horical to Chittagong, the proud queen of the east, the sanctimonious land of Baro Awlia, the port city has played the role of pioneer from Swadesh Sangram to liberation war in 1971," she said in the inaugural address.
Swadesh Palli has started its journey from commercial capital Chittagong with a view to providing service and spreading the product of marginal people which will enlighten our local heritage and culture in different parts of the country, she said.
Different kinds of handicrafts, loom and Jamdani sharee, T-shirts, shirts, panjabi, 3-pieces, block and screen print, karchupi, children wear and different types of toys are available in the house.
Monowara Begum, adviser to Swadesh Palli and executive director of social development organisation Pratyashi, said that Swadesh Palli adds a new dimension in the fashion and heritage. Syed Shahid Uddin, managing director of Swadesh Palli, said the house started its journey with an aim to generate employment and reach the local products of marginal women to the doorsteps of the people.
The elites from different parts of the society attended the function and enjoyed a multi-colour fashion show directed by artist Utram Ghosh while folk artist Raghunath Chakraborty managed the whole programme.
