BTB chalks out programmes to celebrate World Tourism Day

Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) chalked out a series of programmes to celebrate the World Tourism Day (WTD) on September 27 in a view to encouraging all concerned to ensure sustainable and responsible tourism across the country.
"The BTB will hold rally, roundtable discussion, photo exhibitions, publish supplements in newspapers under the supervision of the Tourism Ministry to celebrate the day," Akhtaruz Zaman Khan Kabir, Chief Executive Officer of BTB, told a press conference in the city Sunday.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Lt Col (retd) Faruk Khan will lead the day's first programme-a colourful rally-starting from Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of the Dhaka University to Jatiya Press Club at 8 am, he said.
The BTB will hold a discussion highlighting this year's theme of the day - "Tourism and Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development" at Jatiya Press Club at 11 am.
This year's theme aims at highlighting tourism sector's role for a brighter energy future, where the world population will have access to modern, efficient and affordable energy services, Kabir said.
A debate competition on the theme will be held at TSC Cafeteria of Dhaka University with the support from Dhaka University Tourist Society in the evening, he added.
The BTB will also organise photo exhibition styled 'Let's See Beautiful Bangladesh' with collaboration of social organisation 'WorkSpace' at South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and at Shilpakola Academy in Chittagong from 27-28 September with collaboration of tourism organisation 'Vromon Bangladesh'.
The BTB will also celebrate the day arranging colourful rallies and discussion meeting on various aspect of tourism in the districts with tourist attractions.
Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) will also hold a discussion meeting at 3 pm on September 27 and a food festival at 11 am on September 30 marking the day at Hotel Abokash at Mohakhali in the capital.
Kabir said they have set a target to make Bangladesh one of the top favourite tourist destinations in the South Asia. "We know it's a difficult task, but we will try our level best to project local tourism products to the world by conducting an aggressive international tourism campaign."
The BTB CEO said more budgetary allocation is needed to launch a massive campaign in the international media branding Bangladesh as a tourist destination.
"We need a comprehensive plan with all concerned ministries for proper development of sustainable and eco-friendly tourism in the country," he observed.
