Cleaner tech in leather sector stressed

EU Switch Asia Re-Tie Bangladesh Project organised a workshop on Cleaner technology and better maintenance of machineries of Bangladeshi leather industry at Hazaribag Wednesday in the city. National and international experts discussed elaborately on cleaner technology and better maintenance of machineries. The workshop also discussed the problems facing the country's leather sector and their possible solutions. There were discussions and idea-sharing on barriers that are plaguing the sector and the way forward to achieve a clean industry. The discussants stressed the importance of quality leather production for expanding international market. Speakers mentioned that entrepreneurs should use modern environment and socially viable, compliant and efficient machineries for high-quality leather products otherwise Blangladesh may lose its market in EU. Reduction of environmental threats and increase of exportability of Bangladeshi Leather Products (Re-Tie) is a project funded by European Commission. Lead management pattern of the project is Sequa, Germany with two other international partners including UNIDO. The implementing partners in Bangladesh are Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather Footwear & Exporters Association (BFLLFEA) and Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA). - FE Report
