Experts share knowledge about capital market

Participants of the World Investor Week 2019 arranged by East West University Investment and Finance Club


East West University (EWU) Investment and Finance Club celebrated the World Investor Week 2019 in the university campus on October 02 and 03, 2019.
On the first day of celebration, an intra university finance-based quiz and composition writing competition took place with the title "Finalogy season 3". More than 120 undergraduate students participated in this competition.
On the following day, a seminar was arranged on "Challenges faced by young investors in the emerging capital market". Farhad Ahmed, executive director, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, and Dr Md Tabarak Hossain Bhuiyan, managing director and CEO, Prime Bank Investment Limited (PBIL), chaired as guest speakers of the programme. Both speakers shared their views and experiences from the regulatory aspects as well as investor's perspective about the current capital market situation and future aspects of Bangladeshi capital market. Moreover, both speakers encouraged young investors to participate in the capital market from this early stage and increase their knowledge over the period of time in future. Mr Abdullah Abu Sayade, head of Business and Research, Dhaka Bank Securities Limited also shared his views about the current situation of the capital market to the young investors. Professor Dr Tanbir Ahmed Chowdhury, former Dean of Faculty of Business and Economics, mentioned that regulators should play more active role to bring investors’ confidence to move the capital more forward.
Moderators of the EWU Investment and Finance Club, Leo Vashkor Dewri and Fatema Tuz Johra, led the organising team to make the event a success.
At the end of the celebration, the prize giving ceremony of Finalogy Season-3 was held where the top three participants of the competition were awarded with lucrative amount of prize-money. Other top 10 performers received competition participation certificates for their meritorious performance.
World Investor Week is a global campaign which is promoted by the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) to raise awareness about the importance of investor education and protection. Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) observed the "World Investor Week 2019" from September 30 to October 04. All the associated organisations actively participated in the week-long programme. Meetings, workshops, seminars, symposiums etc. were arranged by different stakeholders, professional bodies and universities throughout the week. Different types of issues like importance of financial literacy, investors' protection, investors' right, investor awareness programme etc. were discussed during this period.
