Govt committed to environ-friendly construction, says Faruk Khan

The government will provide all sorts of help for the construction industry to acquire the capacity to use the best technique and technology for the development of the national economy, Commerce Minister Faruk Khan has said. He said, "We are committed to ensuring environment-friendly construction in the country and for this reason we will provide all sorts of support to develop the sector." He urged all to concentrate on saving the environment, tackling the challenge of natural disasters and ensuring the effective use of resources. The commerce minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of BACI (Bangladesh Association of Construction Industry) Construction Exhibition 2011 at a city hotel Thursday. Speaking as the special guest, Federation of the Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President AK Azad said, "The contribution of the construction industry to GDP is 9 per cent. So it can be a potential sector for our country." He added that the contraction sector can be a good option to reduce the employment crisis. Around 30 million people of Bangladesh are unemployed and the demand for employment increases by about 20,000 each year. BACI President Shafiqul Alam Bhuiyan said, "We have organised the exhibition with a view to showing all the products and services of the construction sector." BACI exhibition sub-committee convener Sk Md Rafiqul Islam also spoke at the inaugural ceremony. There are 33 stalls of 23 companies in the fair which will remain open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm everyday at Winter Garden of Dhaka Sheraton Hotel till March 26.
