GP to provide business solutions to Norway firm

Mobile operator Grameenphone (GP) will provide business solution to a brick-making firm PCCN Bangladesh. Bangladesh chapter of the Norwegian company produces alternative brick using polymer concrete. The country's largest mobile phone operator inked an agreement with the company recently to provide services under its Business Solutions package, said a statement. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PCCN Bangladesh Ltd Inge Skaar and CEO of Grameenphone Ltd Tore Johnson signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations. The GP Business Solutions is an integrated telecommunications service, specially designed for the business entities of Bangladesh. Comprising of modern mobile telecommunications services for any business needs, the GP Business Solutions provides voice, text messaging and mobile data and internet services. Chairman of PCCN Bangladesh Ltd Christian Hiemeyer, Director Maksudul Hoque and Project Director Ferdous Sheikh, among others, were present in the signing ceremony. - FE Report
Sonali distributes microcredit at Mirersarai
State-run Sonali Bank Limited (SBL) has distributed Tk 6.6 million as microcredit among 154 poor people in Mayani and Moghadia unions of Mirersarai Upazila in Chittagong. The bank, which aims to help the poor become self-reliant, distributed the loan as per the new guideline of the Bangladesh Bank. The General Manager of SBL of Chittagong, Didar Md Abdur Rab, presided over the meeting. Engineer Mosharaff Hossain, chairman of parliamentary standing committee on civil aviation and tourism ministry and Humayun kabir, the bank's Managing Director & CEO, attended the distribution ceremony as the chief guest and the special guest respectively. While addressing the function, Mr Hossain called upon the borrowers to use the money for changing their fate. Mr Kabir said the bank has distributed microcredit among the poor to make the present government's vision to build a poverty-free Bangladesh a success. He also urged the loan gainers to use the money properly and take loan again after paying its premium.

Oil production tops 500,000 bpd in Libya
TRIPOLI, Nov 1: Libyan oil production has reached 530,000 barrels per day, the National Oil Corporation said Tuesday, exceeding expectations for the rate of recovery of the war-torn country's vital industry. "We are now producing 530,000 barrels per day. The main problem (in reaching this level) was that the Sharara pipeline was blocked. But they have been very quick to fix this," a senior official at the state-run NOC said. - AFP
