India allocates more funds to boost power sector

NEW DELHI, May 10 (Commodity Online): Continuing its effort to revamp country's power sector, India has allotted additional Rs 40.29 billion under the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R- APDRP). According to india's Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, projects ubnder the scheme will be taken up in two parts. Part-A will be for establishing IT enabled systems for energy accounting auditing and SCADA for big cities while Part-B will be for regular distribution upgradation and strengthening projects. Out of the total released amount, Rs 39.03 billion are in the form of loan for disbursement to state utilities while Rs 1.26 billion are as grant against enabling component for implementation of R-APDRP. He said all the States and Union Territories have invited Request for Proposals (RFPs) for appointing IT Implementing agencies for executing Part-A projects. So far 21 States and Union Territories have already appointed IT Implementing agencies.
