India coffee exports surge to 0.3m tonnes

MUMBAI, Mar 28 (Commodity Online): Indian coffee exports have registered a surge to 0.3 million tonnes from the previous year's 1, 95,068 tons with exports of value added coffee also going up. Last year, the country earned 20.61 billion from coffee exports, while in 2010-11, the exports have raked in Rs 35 billion. Coffee Board figures say that coffee production in the country has climbed by 3.2 per cent to 2,99,000 tonnes, reported The Economic Times. Arabica (trading at 4,600-4, 750 per 50 kg) production is estimated to lag behind 95,000 tons while robusta crop (trading at 2,425-2,525 per 50 kg) is pegged at 2,04,000 tonnes. Brazil, Colombia production, meanwhile, have registered a decline due to weather anomalies.
