Int’l convention discusses ways to improve analytical skills

Another golden feather was added in the crown of the University of Dhaka. After competitions with multiple teams from various countries, the Team Luminous from University of Dhaka won 'Extra Ordinary Award' (meaning champion of the champions) in the global case competition named 'International Convention on Student Quality Control Circle (ICSQCC)'. The convention was held at Daffodil International University (DIU) permanent campus at Savar from May 03 to 06, 2018. As many as 64 teams from countries such as India, Nepal, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, USA and Bangladesh attended the competition.

The convention promotes Students' Quality Control Circle (SQCC) which is a part of Total Quality Management (TQM). This convention also strongly underlined quality education and sustainable development for the students so that they can improve their analytical skills and exhibit great teamwork.

Team Luminous consists of Shahedul Hasan (team leader), Mohammad Hamza (deputy leader) along with Naila Sharmin, Tahamina Akter Riya and Zahirul Islam from Department of Marketing, University of Dhaka. They represented Bangladesh with an inimitable title 'Depression among the undergraduate students due to the uncooperative learning environment.'

The convention gave a real opportunity to the students to share their thoughts about the problems they are confronting. Depression, quality education and education environment were some of the vital topics. 'This convention helps us to explore and fine-tune ourselves in the international platform, surely it enables us to overhaul the education system' said by Alex, a member of an Indian team.

The champion team from DU gave an in-depth analysis to delineate the arcane mental health problems of the students. University students are one of the susceptible groups who is experiencing mental health problems. Team Luminous determined the critical factors of the learning environment that are debilitating undergraduate students and ways to head off those problems.

As a host, delegates from Bangladesh directly participated in the global round, and DU team wielded a forefront position on case study part. The closing and certificate giving ceremony of the 21st ICSQCC-2018 was held on May 05, 2018 at Ashulia permanent campus of Daffodil International University where home affairs minister Asaduzzaman Khan, MP, was present as the chief guest while Dr Md Sabur Khan, chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University was present as the special guest. They handed over the crests and medals to the winners.
