State-owned life insurance company 'Jiban Bima Corporation' (JBC) has introduced online system to provide smooth and faster services to its valued clients, officials said. The software that performs all the activities of JBC through online system is the integrated customised software that has been developed by the Corporation. The insurance company has adopted integrated online modules that brought all the seven regional and 31 district sales offices under the computerised system, helping the Corporation to perform in a bigger way and substantially reduce working hours, it added. The online insurance system has tremendously helped in gearing up the JBC's services and also allow its clients to know the latest information of their respective policies, according to the computer division of the Corporation. "The offices which are still out of online services will come under the system soon. JBC will provide computers to the 33 districts offices that are still out of online facilities," Deputy Manager, ICT division and Project Coordinator of Online Insurance System (OIS) of JBC Md Mosharraf Hossain told the FE. Explaining the details of the online system he said, the JBC offers 25 policy supports products to its clients that include endowment and group policies. "After the introduction of the online system, renewal premium collection rate has increased 25 per cent," he said. "A policy holder from inside or outside the country can now easily know the latest condition of his her policy. Heshe needs to open the website www.jbc.gov .bd. of the Corporation," he said. He said in the web site, there is an area for policy holders. There are two buttons in the website -- log-in and registration. If a person makes double click on registration button then heshe gets a subscription form. After filling up the related information to the form, they should click the submit button. If the submitted information is correct then the policy holders can get accepted mail with user ID and password that is used for viewing information related to online service. JBC started its maiden journey on May 14, 1973 under Presidential Order 6 through the merger of two insurance companies Surma and Rupsha. Since then the Corporation started using computers. But after 1975, the successive governments did not pay more attention to the development of the online system. The Corporation first launched Online Insurance System (OIS) on August 6, 2099. There are eleven modules in OIS of JBC. The modules are insurance system, utility service system, general accounting system, payroll system, personnel administration system, management information system, fixed asset management system, web administration system, security system, system administration and back-up and recovery system. The first seven modules are related to the functions of JBC and each module has different sub modules. The last four modules are used to support the first seven modules. JBC and Banglalink recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide faster services to the people. As per the deal, the insurance policy holders can deposit their premium through the mobile service provider at the grassroots level of the country. The clients will get the service from the Union Information Service Centres (UISC). The service will be offered in near future at all UISCs so that they (policy holders) could know information about JBC and deposit their premium. The Corporation, which had observed its 39th founding anniversary on May 14 this year, has been making profits without financial liabilities. The number of JBC offices across the country is now about 427 having 1.5 million policy holders. As per calculation in 2010, the total investment of the JBC is now about Tk 10.96 billion (1,096.12 crore). The life fund of the Corporation is now Tk 12.91 billion (1291 crore). "We are working on it. We have developed Insurance Information System (IIS) to collect the field-level information. JBC's clients could now deposit their premium through mobile phone services," Chairman of JBC Mohammad Sohrab Uddin told the FE.
