Logistic support to boost Dhaka-Bangkok trade

The 10th Thailand Trade Exhibition Dhaka-2011 and Thai Food Festival will kick off April 7 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in a bid to boost up trade between Dhaka and Bangkok. Industries Minister Dilip Barua is expected to inaugurate the three-day trade exhibition at the Sonargaon Hotel, while Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister GM Quader to open the week-long food festival at the Café Bazar Restaurant. Thai Ambassador to Bangladesh Ms Tassanowadee Miancharoen said, "We have already huge investment in different sectors of Bangladesh and we will be able to invest more and expand trade if we get the logistic support from the government." "The trade between the two countries is increasing every year. The trade volume was U$909.95 million in 2010 with a growth of 39.10 per cent compared to that of the year 2009," she told a press conference on the trade exhibition in the city Sunday. Bangladesh exports garments and textiles, frozen sea food, pharmaceutical products, animal and animal products to Thailand, while imports polymers, woven fabrics, yarn and filament, cement, iron and steel, rubber products, plastic products, auto parts and sugar from the southeast Asian country. She said that Thai government is interested work together to develop the tourism sector of Bangladesh. Thai Airways General Manager Charoenchai Laksanakorn, Royal Thai Embassy Minister Counselor (commercial) Usa Wijarurn, Bangladesh Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTCCI) President MA Momen spoke at the press conference. At least 43 Thai manufacturers and exporters with 50 booths will exhibit different products including auto parts, accessories, hardware, agriculture, garments textile fashion accessories, health, beauty and herbal, kitchenware and stationery items. There will be over 100 delicious items at the food festival and an individual can have launch or dinner with Tk 3000.
