Move to insure rural people

The government will give insurance service to the rural people through 200 Union Information and Service Centres (UISCs) across the country from next month. As per the initiative, Jiban Bima Corporation (JBC) signed a deal with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) funded Access to Information (A2I) programme at the Prime Minister's Office Monday. Managing Director of JBC Parikshit Datta Choudhury and National Project Director of A2I Nazrul Islam Khan signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of their respective organisations. The JBC chief said they will introduce the service experimentally through 200 UISCs. If proved successful then JBC will bring all the UISCs under the service, he added. Mr Choudhury also said the main objective of the initiative is to bring the poor under the insurance coverage that will help them during their woes. He mentioned that this project will generate almost 7000 employments. Nazrul Islam said the people will get information technology service from the UISCs along with insurance service. General Manager (ICT) Talukder Shamsur Rahman and General Manager (Development) Kamal Uddin of JBC among others, were present, in the signing ceremony.
