NBR chief gets one-year job extension

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed Monday received one-year extension of his job tenure. Job contract of Dr Nasir, also secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD), was scheduled to expire on October 28. A senior official said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave her consent on the NBR chief's job tenure extension. The process will be completed after getting nod of the President, he added. The government has extended service length of the NBR chief for the second time. In 2009, he got extension for two years on contractual basis, while he was supposed to go on LPR on October 28, 2009. Dr Nasir took the charge of the IRD and the NBR in April, 2009. He was the secretary of Ministry of Housing and Public Works prior to his posting in NBR. He was also chairman of Rural Electrification Board (REB). He is a member of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) 1981 batch. Nasiruddin Ahmed, a student of Economics, did his PhD from Sydney University of Australia.
