On establishing an academy for teachers

An American politician, Brad Henry said, "A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite imagination and instill lovein learning."Apart from being just an art, with time teaching has explored a significant space in science too. Transmitting knowledge like a good teacher thus requires more beyond sound grasp of a subject. These days, teaching has turned into a popular career consideration for many people, but lack of understanding of the art and science behind good teaching makes teaching a cup of tea for a few.

An individual with a very good academic score is always not a suitable candidate to become a teacher. Aristotle, the great philosopher, said, "The one exclusive sign of thorough knowledge is the power of teaching." This emphasises that while acquiring knowledge, the ability to communicate the knowledge, that is, explaining the understanding to others, must not be ignored, as it extends the depth of knowledge and makes it thoroughgoing. Therefore, the practice of explaining or sharing one's understanding needs to be incorporated in the curriculum to make the high score achievers good teachers of tomorrow.

Fortunately, specialised courses, which appreciate the art and science behind teaching, are there to train one a teacher. Inappropriately, such accreditations are not a necessary requirement to be appointed as a teacher, whether at a school or at a university. Ignorance of accepting only nurtured individuals as a teacher is surely creating a limitationin delivering quality lessons in classes. It can be concluded that in order to establish good teachers, we must decrease our dependency on the "naturals of someone who somehow know how to teach" as mentioned by Peter Drucker, a renowned author. Advanced tools and facilitators to teach teachers are necessary to ensure smooth spread of knowledge from one to the other.
