Jahangirnagar University Model United Nations Association (JUMUNA) has been organising Model United Nations (MUN) conference in Jahangirnagar University (JU) since 2015. This year, for the fourth time, JUMUNA organised a MUN conference. Jahangirnagar Model United Nations 2018 (JMUN 2018)--a three-day conference-- started from February 15 at Jahangirnagar University.
Samsul Islam Naeem and Suzan Barai were acting as the secretary general and director general of JUMUNA 2018 respectively. 25 secretariat board members and 30 event officers worked hard to make the conference successful.
In this conference there were more than 300 delegates from different institutions of our country as well as from Nepal and Qatar. All the delegates worked in eight different UN committees and discussed about current world issues to come over with some effective solutions for the world. MUN is a platform that helps to increase social awareness and skills like- public speaking, writing, negotiations, diplomacy, leadership etc. The resolution papers from the eight committees were sent to United Nations Information Centre, Dhaka.
The chief guest of the inauguration ceremony was Dr Abdulla Hel Kafi, professor of Department of International Relations, and the special guest was Basir Ahmed, professor of Department of Government and Politics--both from Jahangirnagar University. Mohammad Mamun Mia, president of United Nation's Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB) and Md Riyajul Karim, founder president of Jahangirnagar University Model United Nations Associations were also present in the inauguration programme.
The chief guest of the closing ceremony was MA Malek, MP and special guest was M Moniruzzaman, National Information Officer, UNIC Dhaka.
Secretary General Samsul Islam Naeem stated, "We have been working for the last four months to make the conference successful. We have added several new segments and fixed the agendas according to the running issues of the world and came up with a constructive solution that will contribute to the advancement of society."
