Prices of onion, sugar up ******

Prices of onion and sugar witnessed a fresh hike while that of Minicate rice decreased in the city's kitchen markets, traders said Friday. Traders said prices of Minicate rice were down mainly due to arrival of new variety in the local markets. New variety of Minicate was retailing between Tk 50 and Tk 52 per kg, down from Tk 53 to Tk 56 per kg in the previous week and Nazirshail at TK 50 to Tk 56 per kg. But other varieties of rice including medium and coarse remained steady in the kitchen markets. Paizam was selling at Tk 45 per kg last week, while Lata at Tk 42 to Tk 44, BR 28 at Tk 46 to Tk 48 and IRRI at Tk 30 to Tk 35. Prices of other spices except onion remained its previous trend in the city's kitchen markets. The imported variety of onion was selling at Tk 24 to Tk 28 per kg against Tk 18 to Tk 20 per kg while the local one was selling between Tk 18 and Tk 24 per kg last week. The imported garlic was selling at Tk 145 to Tk 150 per kg and the local variety ranged between Tk 85 and Tk 90 per kg last week. Ginger ranged from Tk 80 to Tk 90 per kg last week. Edible oil also maintained its high trend in the city's kitchen markets. Loose soybean was selling at Tk 116 per kg, palm oil at Tk 98 to Tk 104 and super palm at Tk 106 per kg. One-litre container was selling at Tk 116, while two-litre container was Tk 228 last week. A can containing five litres of brand soybean oil such as Rupchanda, Teer and Pusti was selling between Tk 570 and Tk 580. Prices of Atta were decreased by Tk 1.0 to Tk 2.0, while Maida maintained its previous trend as it was last week in the city's kitchen markets. Unpacked flour (Atta) was selling at Tk 29 per kg and the packed variety at Tk 33 to Tk 34 per kg. Unpacked refined flour (Maida) was selling at Tk 34 to Tk 35 per kg and packed Maida at Tk 38 to Tk 39 per kg last week. Unpacked sugar was selling at Tk 56 to Tk 58 per kg up by Tk 2.0 per kg last week at the retailer level in the city. The packed one was selling at its earlier rate of Tk 60 per kg. The price of four pieces of farm eggs was Tk 25 to Tk 26. Local lentil was selling between Tk 80 and Tk 110 per kg depending on its quality. Prices of vegetables and fish, however, remained more or less stable in the city's kitchen markets, traders said. Sheraton renamed Ruposhi Bangla Hotel FE Report The city's five-star hotel 'Dhaka Sheraton Hotel' has been renamed 'Ruposhi Bangla Hotel'. The new name will be announced today (Saturday) at a press conference. From tomorrow (Sunday), the renamed hotel will be operated by state-owned Bangladesh Services Ltd (BSL), officials said. "We have started looking for a world-class operator and management company to run the hotel, and a few international brands have already visited the hotel. Of them, Crown Plaza and Hyatt Hotels and Resorts are in talks with BSL. We will finalise it soon, keeping no ambiguous conditions in the agreement" Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation & Tourism (MCAT) and Chairman of BSL Atharul Islam told the FE Friday. The new company will have to work in line with the government's renovation proposal and cannot shut down the hotel during renovation, he added. He said, Lutfur Rahman, managing director of the BSL, is likely to be the chief executive officer, while Mahfuzur Rahman, director of sales and marketing of Dhaka Sheraton, will be the general manager of the new hotel.
