Shah Alam NurReal Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) has started serving show-cause notices on some 20 real estate companies for what it termed breaching law of the land. On the contrary, the victim realtors said that the action is being taken against them out of political vendetta.
According to the REHAB, the only platform of realtors in the country, the action is taken against these companies as they had violated real estate companies' rules and for many other allegations like giving false information to the customers and breaching terms and conditions of the deeds with buyers in last September.
Out of these 20 companies, Green Delta Housing and Development Pvt. Ltd (GDHD) had already received show-cause notice on September 19 on 45 counts of allegations, said company officials.
"After the next Executive Committee (EC) meeting the show cause notices will be sent to rest of the companies. If they fail to give proper answers to the EC, their membership would be cancelled," an official of the Association told the FE.
General Secretary of REHAB Murad Iqbal Chowdhury said "Legal action will be taken against them if they are found guilty."
"The executive committee has taken the decision to bring transparency in the real estate business, Murad Iqbal Chowdhury said adding the process will continue".
REHAB's show-cause notice to GDHD also asked it to attend the EC meeting at REHAB conference room on October 20 and place their answer otherwise EC would cancel its membership.
But GDHD had secured a stay order of REHAB's show-cause from the court of first assistant judge on October 17.
RAHAB secretary Mr Murad, also managing director of Mega Builders Limited said, "we have received allegations against Green Delta that they do not repay the consumers' money whom they failed to handover flats.
"REHAB had sent a show-cause notice to them, but a court order has suspended the effectiveness of the show-cause".
Managing Director of Atlantic Development Limited Syed Abdul Hannan told the FE that REHAB can't cancel membership of any company if the company does not have any problems with the Association.
He said, "If a company gives wrong information and cheat the consumers then what would be the initiatives of REHAB were not known to me."
Many of the builders told the FE that REHAB's recent decision was politically biased.
