Industries Minister Dilip Barua told the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Monday that formation of the Sick Industry Act was now under process to resolve problems in the industry sector, reports BSS.
Replying to a question from ruling party lawmaker Benzir Ahmed, the minister said the government has no list of sick industries remain closed due to legal suit or other complexities relating to loan.
However, he said, the government has constituted a taskforce to prepare the draft of the sick industry act and make a list of the sick industries.
The minister said the government has a plan to establish three new urea fertiliser industries in the country under Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC).
The proposed projects are: Shahjalal Fertiliser Project in Fenchuganj, Bhola Fertiliser Project at Shahbazpur, Bhola and North-West Fertiliser Project at Saidabad in Sirajganj.
Replying to another question from Sheikh Afil Uddin of the Treasury Bench, the minister said the government is making strategies to implement the Industrial Policy.
Referring to the incentives and facilities offered in the industrial policy, the minister said a list of industrially developed and underdeveloped areas would be prepared with a view to giving some special incentives including tax holiday for setting up industries in those areas.
Responding to a question from Jatiya Party lawmaker HM Golam Reza, the minister said the government has decided to establish office of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) in Mymensingh, Faridpur, Comilla and Cox's Bazar under BSTI Strengthening and Expansion Project.
