Simplification of customs rules needed for regional coop

Simplification of customs rules and tariff structures as a part of trade facilitation is needed for integrated regional cooperation, said DCCI senior vice president Haider Ahmed Khan.
He also stressed on the importance for making the rules of origin simple and transparent for further facilitating the regional trade.
He also underscored the importance of creating awareness about the potential benefits of SAFTA among people and businessmen in the region.
He was speaking as chief guest at a seminar on "SAARC Integration: Trade and Investment Perspective".
Ministry of Civil Aviatiori and Bangladesh Tourism Board in cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly organised the seminar at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital Sunday.
DCCI Directors M. Bashir Ullah Bhuiyan, Khairul Majid Mahmud and Convenor of Civil Aviation and Tourism Development Standing Committee of DCCI Shoaib Choudhury and Co convenor of Housing, Real Estate and Urban Development standing committee of DCCI Salim A. Khan spoke as panel discussants.
The discussants urged upon expansion of Dhaka Chittagong highway, establishing deep sea pori, development of infrastructure, reducing cost of doing business, skill development for oveiall imptovement of trade and commerce in Bangladesh.
They also stressed on ensuring politicai stability and development of domestic tourism.
DCCI Directors Mahabub Anam, Mohd. Iftekharuddin (Naushad), Kh. Shahidul Islam, former Vice President Nasir Hossain and Secretary Mustafa Mohiuddin were also present in the meeting.
