18,000 Nepali child workers working in high risk sector

KATHMANDU, July 2 (Xinhua): About 18,000 child workers are working in the high risk mechanical sector in Nepal, out of which 25 per cent are of age 13 to 15 years, a report published here today said.
According to the report on child labor conducted in 2005/06 jointly by Concern for Children and Environment-Nepal and Plan Nepal, nearly 45 per cent of those children are working in motorcycle and auto repair centers and their average monthly income is below 2000 Nepali rupees (30 US dollars).
The report found that in 4,012 workshop, there are 36 children working in each of them and 61 per cent are from southern Nepal's Terai region and hills. About 56 per cent of the children are literate, 31 per cent have completed primary education and 13 per cent have completed secondary level.
