Arunachal seeks security clearance for trade

ITANAGAR, June 8 (PTI): Arunachal Pradesh government has sought security clearance from the Union Home ministry for development of traditional trade routes to revive border trade with Myanmar and Bhutan, and China in the later phase.

In a letter to the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, state Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu said, in order to implement phase-wise development of traditional trade routes, security clearance from the centre is a must.

Khandu also requested Patil to expedite the process to enable the state government to revive its traditional border trade.

The chief minsiter also detailed the phase-wise plan to reopne and revive border trade with Myanmar, Bhutan and China in the letter.

Union Commerce Minister for state Jairam Ramesh had inaugurated a multi-facility border trade centre building at Nampong in November last to reopen trade through Pangsau pass with Myanmar, the chief minister said.
