]SYDNEY, Sept 6 (AFP): Australia's unemployment rate remained steady at a near 33-year low of 4.3 per cent in August, official data released today showed.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data was unchanged from July and close to a 33-year low of 4.2 per cent recorded in May, with 472,000 people recorded as out of work in August.
A total of 31,900 new jobs were recorded bringing the total number of jobs to 10.513 million, seasonally adjusted, with business seemingly undeterred by last month's interest rate rise.
Most of the new jobs were full-time jobs, the ABS said, with an additional 29,100 jobs bringing full-time jobs to 7.542 million. The number of people in part-time employment also rose, with another 2,700 positions, making a total of 2.971 million part-time jobs.
