Britain's employment at new record high

LONDON, Mar 20 (Xinhua): The number of people in employment in Britain increased to a new record high of 29.46 million in the period of last November to January, according to official figures released yesterday.
Employment rose by 166,000 on the quarter and 367,000 on the year, with the employment rate at 74.8 per cent, up 0.3 percentage points on the quarter, and up 0.4 percentage points on the year, the new figures, issued by the Office for National Statistics, show.
The Jobseekers Allowance claimants were 793,500 in February 2008, down 2,800 on the month and down 126,500 on the year, falling for the 17th consecutive month and remaining the lowest claimant count for 32 years, the figures show.
The number of vacancies remains high at 678,500 in the three months to February 2008, up 1,600 on the quarter and up 59,700 on the year, according to the new figures.
